Clinical Pilates is an invaluable tool in the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries
and chronic conditions, pre-and-post natal management, and prevention of pain and
injury. It can also be used to improve posture and enhance sporting performance.
It is different to regular ‘Pilates’ in many ways. Firstly, it is taught by qualified
and trained Physiotherapists who understand how the exercises affect your particular
injury or condition. Exercises are initially performed on the pilates equipment
– the Reformer and Trapeze Table, which assist correct motor patterns and muscle
activation. The programs are specific to your injury, condition, movement patterns
and goals. At The Studio there are never more than 2 clients at a time so you will
always have close supervision by the Physiotherapist, which prevents exercises from
being performed incorrectly.
Initial consultation involves an in depth history taking and assessment of all injuries,
posture, movement patterns and balance, including video analysis of relevant stability
tests to determine a baseline measure and objectively document improvements.
After the initial consultation, at least one individual pilates session is recommended,
where you have 1 on 1 supervision from the physiotherapist as you learn the basic
exercises. You may then either continue with individual sessions or attend our 2
on 1 session.
Once you have attended enough sessions and the physiotherapist is confident in your
ability to perform the exercises in your program correctly, you can choose to do
unsupervised sessions at discounted rates.
